Each year, Soroptimist International of Poway recognizes four outstanding members of the community who are working to make the world a better place for women and girls, and honors them with an awards ceremony and breakfast in May. The Making a Difference for Women Awards includes: the Women’s Opportunity Award, the Violet Richardson Award, the Woman of Distinction Award, and the Women Helping Women Award.
Women’s Opportunity Award
The Women's Opportunity Award from Soroptimist International has helped tens of thousands of women to achieve their personal and professional goals through continuing education and enhanced employment opportunities. At a local level, this award is a cash grant of $1000 to assist women who are the primary income provider for their families while pursuing an education. Winners of the Soroptimist International of Poway Women’s Opportunity Award may go on to compete at the District and Federation levels for additional grant money of up to $10,000.

Violet Richardson Award
This award honors young women who volunteer in the community and are committed to making the world a better place. Girls between 14 and 17 years of age who are dedicated any volunteer activity, such as fighting drugs, crime and violence; cleaning up the environment; and working the end discrimination and poverty, may be eligible to win a cash award of $500 for her personal use, plus an additional $500 for the organization of her choice. Winners of the Soroptimist International of Poway Violet Richardson Award may go on to compete at the District and Federation levels for additional money of up to $4,500.

Woman of Distinction and Women Helping Women Award
These two awards are given to members of the community who have made extraordinary efforts to improve the lives of women and girls. We are deeply appreciative of all they do, and these awards are a way of publicly honoring them for their hard work.
