Soroptimist International of Poway and Rancho Bernardo have been working together since 1996 to provide housing for battered women and their children. This program moves the mother and children from dependency and abuse to a safe, self-sustaining lifestyle within 18 months. We have helped over 25 mothers and 60 children to reclaim their lives in a positive, supportive environment.
Soroptimist has established strong collaborative partnerships throughout the community. Housing Works of San Diego County, a non-profit developer and manager of affordable housing, designates housing units for the families and assists with obtaining permanent affordable housing upon graduation from the program. Crisis House, Inc, a community based, social service agency established in 1970, selects and places families in the homes and provides counseling, employment training, school placement, and many other services.
Soroptimist provides the over-all coordination and management of the program, pay the temporary rent subsidy and refurbish and furnish each unit. All funds raised go directly to family support and are not used for administration.
